UNSW Village

The award-winning 1021-bed, $127 million development is one of CLV’s flagship Australian properties and one of the largest single stage delivery student accommodation builds in Australia.

Opened in January 2010, the response from the market was outstanding, with the Village achieving 100% occupancy between its January opening and the start of the academic year in February.

Working in partnership with UNSW, CLV developed a marketing and promotional plan to promote the new property to current and prospective UNSW students. Close relationships were developed with domestic and international marketing offices, events and communications staff. This resulted in excellent media coverage of the development and opening event, access for UNSW Village staff to promote to students on campus, and official University endorsement of the Village in enrolment correspondence, publications, promotional materials and websites. This professional collaboration contributed to the outstanding occupancy result in the first year of operation.

UNSW Village was one of the first CLV sites to implement marketing technologies such as virtual tours, 3D floor plans and social media campaigns, offering potential residents a taste of village life before the property had even been built. Now, online social networks are used to provide an interactive communication channel through which residents, both current and potential, can meet new people and share information.

UNSW Village offers a choice of one to eight bedroom apartments, some with fantastic views across the neighbouring racecourse. A friendly village atmosphere is encouraged through the creation of community spaces and a residential life program focused on helping students live, learn and grow.

Environmentally sustainable design initiatives include the use of thermomass insulated precast concrete for superior thermal performance, solar boosted gas hot water, grey water treatment, generous levels of natural light and cross ventilation to bedrooms and living areas. The Village also preserves historic elements such as UNSW’s Old Tote Theatre and the 100-year-old fig trees that run through the site.
