In partnership with the University of Houston – Clear Lake (UHCL), Campus Living Villages has launched its Hawk’s Landing program at University Forest Student Village. The exclusive living-learning community was developed to provide a welcoming and engaging student experience for the university’s freshman cohort.
New freshman residents, many of whom have moved away from their parents for the first time, live in fully furnished two bedroom, two bathroom units with a shared living room and kitchen. A dedicated Resident Assistant provides a convenient point of contact for questions and guidance as residents transition to college life.
Each month, the University Forest team organizes an exclusive calendar of events aimed at providing academic support, encouraging social interaction and teaching essential life skills. With activities such as scavenger hunts, budgeting workshops, haunted houses and indoor sky diving, residents are encouraged to develop essential life skills and cherished memories, as well as build life-long friendships.
In addition to enhancing the student experience, the program is expected to support recruitment and retention among first year students at the University of Houston – Clear Lake.
Hawks Landing entered its second year in 2016. Demand for the program is high, with University Forest experiencing a 100% increase in applications compared to the previous year.
Following the program’s success, CLVus has entered discussion with other university partners to develop tailored student experience programs at campuses across the US. The initial stages have been developed for a music living-learning community at Chisholm Hall (University of Texas at San Antonio), a first year experience program at University Court (Louisiana State University at Shreveport) and a program at CLV’s first residential college at Varnado Hall (Northwestern State University (LA).
