CLV Australia’s annual operations conference, held in Manly, Sydney in August, has set a high benchmark as one of the best CLVau conferences to date, according to attendees.
This year’s people-focused event, aptly titled the “Conference of Us” hosted the village management teams from across Australia and guests from New Zealand and the UK. Facilities Management also ran a parallel conference stream, further increasing connectivity between staff.
The structure of the conference was developed by Director of Operations, Shannon O’Connor, and was designed to step away from the structure of past conferences, promote an inclusive atmosphere and create an aligned vision for head office and village employees. The delivery of the event however was a team effort, with Sue Fergusson, Rita di Nola, Lauren Storey and Lauren Glas playing key roles across the week’s activities.
In order to provide a broad perspective, external speakers and presenters were brought in for interactive sessions such as ‘University Partnerships’ (John Niland, CLV’s Principal Advisor on University Partnerships), ‘Building the CLV Employee Experience’ (Fran Corrigan, Ignite Performance), ‘Train the Trainer’ (Todd Wright, Threesides) and ‘Insights: Digital’ (Michelle McGrath, Lens10).
For the first time, a CLV Conference Awards Dinner was held on the Thursday evening, with the staff below being congratulated for their fantastic achievements:
According to the post conference survey, 76% of respondents rated the conference as “Excellent”, with the remainder rating it as “Good”. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with staff commenting:
“This year was awesome and will be remembered”
“Best conference I have attended”
“Everything was great. Best one yet!”
“The feedback attests that it was a highly successful event,” commented Shannon. “The energy and engagement in the sessions was immediately noticeable and personally I walked away feeling how lucky I am to work with this team and also how good it was for all of us to work for a business like CLV.”
“The CLVau Awards Dinner was a wonderful evening that was a really special moment. I rarely get on the dance floor but did on this occasion… that’s the only metric you need when it comes to measuring a great evening!” he said.
CLV has already started planning next year’s conference, and will take on feedback such as including a session with the Development team and continuing to involve Village teams when creating content for the program.
