Summary of the Role

The Resident Director will work with the Assistant Director to ensure that the Residential Life/Student Development Program for the community is fully operational and functional in order to enhance the quality of life in the community. The Resident Director will supervise the Resident Assistants on staff and be available to assist them in their duties at any time.

Resident Life Management

  • Assists in the training and supervising of the Resident Assistants.
  • Distributes and collects all Resident Assistants’ materials (e.g. manuals, keys, apartment condition reports etc.).
  • Maintains contact with the Resident Assistants on a daily basis.
  • Assists in the evaluation of the Resident Assistants’ work performance.
  • Develops a positive relationship with the Resident Assistants and provide after hours support to Resident Assistants on-call.
  • Listens to Resident Assistants’ problems and/or complaints and take appropriate actions.
  • Assists in facilitating mediation and resolution of resident conflicts.
  • Submits a report to the Assistant Director within 24 hours of all incidents and situations which threaten the health and safety of residents and/or violate University/community policies and regulations.
  • Participates in the University’s training programs.
  • Promotes and encourages resident participation in all University sponsored activities.
  • Serves as a communication and resource referral on community and University activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in MS Office


  • Prefer a minimum of one (1) year’s work experience as a Resident Assistant at the facility or a similar type student facility.


  • Maintain classification as a student in good standing at the University with a minimum of 2.5 GPA each semester.
