Key Duties

Management & Supervision of Village Operations

  • In conjunction with the General Manager oversee the operation of all functions of Village operations.
  • Oversee the management of the front office and ensure appropriate and effective staffing during office hours.
  • All other duties as outlined in the Position Description and/or a reasonably directed from time to time.

Sales and Marketing

  • Residential sales and marketing is managed by the University with CLV obliged to support their campaigns.
  • Summer/Short Stays sales and marketing is the obligation of CLV.
  • Work with the General Manager to achieve agreed budgeted occupancy targets.
  • In conjunction with the General Manager and Head Office marketing staff, prepare and implement marketing and sales plans for the Village Summer/Short Stays programs.
  • All other duties as outlined in the Position Description and/or a reasonably directed from time to time.

Residential Life and Support

  • Manage and support a residential life program that supports the requirements of both the University of Sydney Student Experience and Local Provisions, including the assistance and delivery of the University Local Grants Scheme.
  • Ensure the Village provides an environment that promotes a positive, fun and inclusive community, is conductive to study, and supports the development of skills for independent living.
  • Recruit, and work closely with the Resident Life Manager to ensure the Res Life team possess the appropriate skills to carry out required tasks, and implement annual training for RAs.
  • All other duties as outlined in the Position Description and/or a reasonably directed from time to time.

Staff Management

  • Assist the General Manager with recruitment needs, including interviewing and liaising with CLV head office Human Resources as required.
  • Assist the General Manager in conducting staff appraisals and staff development.
  • Ensure operational staff have access to relevant professional development opportunities
  • All other duties as outlined in the Position Description and/or a reasonably directed from time to time.

Relationship Management

  • In conjunction with the General Manager, actively engage with University staff and management to develop and maintain a positive working relationship.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key suppliers and contractors.
  • Deliver effective communication to residents to ensure a consistent, inclusive and open information flow.
  • All other duties as outlined in the Position Description and/or a reasonably directed from time to time.

Risk and Safety Management

  • Ensure that the Safety Management Plan and Occupational Health and Safety procedures and policies are implemented effectively throughout the Village.
  • Ensure staff are kept up to date with changing responsibilities, legislation and obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with prevailing operational legislation, including Data Protection and privacy.
  • All other duties as outlined in the Position Description and/or a reasonably directed from time to time.

Legal and Compliance

  • Be conversant with and ensure compliance with all agreements, leases, contracts pertaining to the Village, including but not limited to those relating to CLV and the University.
  • Be fully conversant with the Village Residential Agreement, Village Rules, the Village Handbook and applicable Rules and Regulations, and work with the General Manager to enforce them with impartiality.
  • Assist the General Manager in monitoring procedures, risk mitigation and controls to ensure compliance with regulations and contractual obligations.
  • All other duties as outlined in the Position Description and/or a reasonably directed from time to time.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Experience in an operational management role in a service based industry with a commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to lead, manage and direct staff and contractors in the operation of their duties.
  • Computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, database management systems such as StarRez and web content management systems.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and communicate accurate financial information.
  • Hold a formal qualification in a relevant area, preferably in hotel or business management, attained at University or other tertiary educational institution.
  • Experience in the management and leadership of employees and coordination of effective teams, and driving achievement against team objectives.
  • Exceptional communication skills that promote positive relationships with stakeholders and residents.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in preparing correspondence, submissions, presentations and reports.
  • Commercially astute and possessing a demonstrated operational understanding of asset, risk and safety management.
  • Must possess a demonstrated affinity with students and young adults, together with knowledge and understanding of the pressures affecting such students.
  • An ability and willingness to participate fully in the cultural, pastoral and recreational life of the Villages.
  • Awareness of university environment and academic year cycles.
  • Strong focus on delivering outstanding results and experiences for stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate high ethical standards, integrity and commitment in all aspects of work.
  • Use initiative to resolve issues and find solutions.
  • Understanding and adherence to the requirements of WHS legislation, Privacy and other legislation, those impacts on your employment
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
