UCA Student Village (Christchurch, New Zealand) has taken the student experience to the next level, as the first of CLV’s New Zealand sites to launch the V1 – First Year Uni program.
V1 expands on the Village’s existing residential life framework, creating a tailored induction and engagement program dedicated specifically to students starting their first year of university. Compared to the previous residential life program, V1 will focus more strongly on helping first year students excel academically, as well as provide a supportive transition to independent living.
The implementation was a collaborative approach with the University of Canterbury, including workshops with Student Services and Student Development teams and university involvement in the RA recruitment and training process.
“This initiative raises the bar for a first year student experience in New Zealand and really focusses on helping our residents have the best possible start to their university career. The entire UCA team have embraced V1,” said Dion Brown, CLVnz’s Director of Operations and acting UCA General Manager.
“The new V1 branding can be seen throughout the Village and has added a level of energy to the environment. The residents and RA’s are proudly wearing their V1 t-shirts!” he said.
The V1 – First Year Uni concept was developed at Griffith University Village (Gold Coast, Australia), and has since won awards for Housing Operator of the Year from the Australasian Association of College and University Housing Officers and New Brand, Product or Service Launch (NSW) from the Australian Marketing Institute.
