James May opens Prince Consort Village

The 28th of June saw the official opening of our newest residence, Prince Consort Village in Ravenscourt Park, West London.

The star-studded event was attended by television presenter, and keen musician, James May, who officially opened our newest residence. Also in attendance was Robert Winston, who is recognised by most as the presenter of Child of our Time.

Prince Consort Village is a music-focused facility and has seen us take our innovation to a new level, catering specifically for creative students in London. The site, which opened this spring, provides affordable accommodation for 415 talented musicians. Shared facilities include acoustically treated bedrooms, 23 dedicated practice rooms which are available 24-hours a day, a cinema room, a large open plan social space which includes an open mic stage, gaming stations, eating areas and iPad benches, as well as indoor and outdoor communal spaces, a gym and a laundry.

Prince Consort Village has seen us partner with the Royal College of Music in a joint venture. Whilst the majority of rooms are for RCM students, we also have accommodation available to students from other universities. The site and facilities that we’ve designed are likely to appeal to those with a keen interest in music and would benefit from living in a creative environment.

James May said: There’s not a great deal in the world that can’t be sorted out with a bloody good tune, which is what the students at the Royal College of Music provide. I’m delighted the new halls of residence is finished, it’s a far cry from the accommodation that I had when I was a student in the 1980s, and it’s an unexpected honour to be asked here to open it today.

Richard Gabelich, CEO of Campus Living Villages UK said: Prince Consort Village is an outstanding example where working in partnership with the RCM has enabled us to provide a unique environment where creative students will flourish. For CLV, this goes beyond just providing a bed – the health and wellbeing of the students is just as important as the physical environment. Our team are dedicated to ensuring excellent pastoral care and support to ensure we create a memorable experience for all our residents.
