Louise Woolhouse couldn’t quite believe it when she managed to win one of two $5,000 accommodation scholarships from tertiary accommodation provider Campus Living Villages.
Scholarship hopefuls were asked to create a 60 second video on why they thought they would love to live at UCA. Louise’s clever ‘UCA-itis’ entry saw her appealing for an antidote to her obsession with the University of Canterbury Accommodation.
After uploading her video to the I Love UCA Facebook page and receiving 647 likes the Rotorua student won one of the generous scholarship prizes.
“Scholarships were awarded to the top two most popular video’s uploaded to our I Love UCA Facebook page” Says Emma McAlpine, Sales and Marketing Manager for Campus Living Villages. “Louise’s video was extremely popular enabling us to award her one of the two scholarships”.
Louise will be studying a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Media & Communications and English at the University of Canterbury in 2015 and living at University of Canterbury Accommodation – a site owned by global tertiary accommodation provider Campus Living Villages who made the scholarships available.
“I was so happy, I couldn’t really believe it” says Louise on winning the scholarship. “Having $5,000 off my accommodation fees will definitely make it a lot easier for me financially, so I can put my money towards other things”.
Of her video, Louise commented “The idea for my video came from watching Chris Lilley’s mockumentaries; I liked the idea of pretending to take something so seriously, but really during filming we were all trying so hard not to laugh!”
“It’s fabulous to see the talented young people we have coming to live with us” says Mrs McAlpine. “They set the standard for our scholarship program, which gets better and better every year”.
